Caught by the FBI, Ethan is brought back to Phoenix to face charges for murder. As Emma continues to search for evidence that can help Ethan's case, she clashes with Ted and Kristin over her unwavering support of a murder suspect. Alec's relationship with the victim prevents him from taking the case himself so he assigns a star prosecutor from his firm, prompting Dan to reach out to an ex-girlfriend who is now a successful defense attorney. Meanwhile, encouraged by their time together in hiding, Sutton has her own plans for Ethan.

The Lying Game Recap: Episode 19 “Oh Twin, Where Art Thou?” (02/27/2012)
The Lying Game revealed two big secrets Monday night and even started up a new romance and engagement. The ABC Family series is one a way from closing out its very first season and the reveals are finally beginning to connect the dots for viewers. Or at least, the chance to map out what really may be going on.
It starts with Emma and Mads heading to school with the same old Ethan talk. Mads truly thinks that Sutton was lying to Emma about sleeping with him (just proving how she really was her best friend at one point) and decides to drag Emma to his trailer. Dan answers though because Ethan clearly wants to avoid the entire situation. Meanwhile, Ryan confronts Mads later in school wondering why she has been so distant. She later confesses that she can’t tell him the whole story but at least tells him that someone she is very close with may be in trouble and she needs to find out more about it. Ryan encourages her to do what she has to and she ends up telling Sutton, Emma, Ethan and Thayer that she’s definitely in to find out more about–who else? Her father Alec, of course.
Oh, yes. Sutton, Emma and Ethan all shared screen time in the same room this episode. Emma and Ethan finally hashed it out and it didn’t take long for them to figure out that Sutton was lying to the two of them. BUT, Ethan decided to keep the fact that he did kiss Sutton a secret. #Nothinggoodwillcomeofthis They later confront Sutton and soon squash the bickering. Only after Emma confronted Sutton prior though and slapped that smile off her face. Kristin had been speaking to Emma with Sutton nearby about her fears that Ted was cheating on her with Rebecca. However, the twins decide to leave that information out while speaking to Ethan, Thayer and Mads.
As Thayer and Sutton continue to track down the mystery of Derek’s death and suspicions of Rebecca, Ethan and Emma join Laurel and Baz on their Coachella trip with Kristin’s permission. Unfortunately the trip never happens though. The foursome get stuck in Buford Falls and have to stay over night at a hotel. Okay scratch the previous. This turns out to be something pretty good for them at first. Laurel jokes with Emma on why she isn’t with Ethan alone in their room and she admits she’s a virgin. She laughs and falls off the bed. Later on Laurel and Baz play at a nursing home instead and he lets out that he was pretty much excited just to be with her for the weekend. She kisses him quickly before playing. So smooth. Love it. As they play Ethan and Emma stay back to have sex for the first time. The shirts are off and yep–Ethan confesses to kissing Sutton right before anything happens. But no worries–Emma states that he’s actually done her a favor. The reveal stopped her from making the biggest mistake of her life. She storms off and Ethan is left feeling like an idiot. Burn.
Finally, there’s Sutton and Thayer. They contact Rebecca’s old maid and she mentions how Rebecca left her to go find her true love. In fact, she still has a heart locket with a picture of the guy still inside of it. Sutton and Thayer take that tip and Sutton begins to search her room later on. Thayer and Mads go to speak to Alec to distract him and find out that Alec and Rebecca just got engaged. Rebecca really knows how to make her way into town. Thayer rushes back to Rebecca’s room to tell Sutton and they snag the necklace. Inside is an old picture of Ted.
Weekend of Living Dangerously was a good episode but some of the reveals were pretty obvious. Rebecca came to town for a reason, had even picked out her engagement ring beforehand and even knows Annie Hobbs. Some surprises are sure to be in store for the season one finale but there is a possibility that audiences already know exactly what’s to come. Is Rebecca really Sutton and Emma’s mom? During the show Ted revealed that the phone call he received while in surgery with Justin’s mom turned out to be their doctor saying Kristin wasn’t pregnant. Is Alec actually trying to look out for Ted but in a creepy way moving in on Rebecca for the long haul? Did Alec definitely kill Derek because their lives just finally got out of hand? Will Dan and the ex actually take down the district attorney?
All there’s to know now is that Ethan and Emma are over and it is annoying! Hopefully they get back together by next week. Or at least we get to see more of Laurel and Baz!

This week’s penultimate episode of The Lying Game left a lot of fans buzzing about the show’s favorite couple Emma and Ethan.
What does the future hold for these two? What is it like to work with an actress taking on two roles? And what will go down on Monday’s season finale? Who better to ask for a few answers than Ethan Whitehorse himself, Blair Redford!
First, of course, Ethan loved Sutton… then he loved Emma… then he kissed Sutton and finally confessed to Emma. Our heads were spinning. Was Emma correct in telling Ethan he’d always want Sutton?
“Well, I personally think Ethan does believe he’s done with Sutton,” Redford said. “I just believe they had such a troubled time lately that it’s got him pretty confused, but rightly so.”
Don’t shake your head in anger, fans. At least not too violently. Redford assured me that we would see some sort of resolution in the finale. Ethan is really going to try to make his feelings for Emma known on “Unholy Matrimony.” And that’s far from all.
“You’re probably going to get the biggest bomsbhell of the entire season by far,” the actor teased of the finale.
Might this be related to the biological parents of the twins? Redford simply said it’s a development no one will see coming.
On a separate note, I asked what it’s like to work with Alexandra Chando as she takes on dueling roles.
“It’s obviously something new and different, not many actors get to experience that, but it helps that she has so clearly defined the two characters. My reaction is very fitting of the story because of Alexandra’s hard work.”
Overall, Redford is clearly more than just a pretty face. He’s very sweet and totally appreciative of the show’s fan base.
“It’s actually amazing,” he says. “It blows me away how passionate they are with that stuff, artwork on Tumblr, videos on YouTube; it really blows me away the commitment and the passion the fans have, it always impresses me and I appreciate that they are moved to create something like that.”

This week’s episode of The Lying Game set us up to enjoy a saucy little road trip, but unfortunately there were a few interruptions. In “Weekend of Living Dangerously,” Emma and Ethan did their usual back and forth and something tells me I’m not the only one who was left a little bit frustrated.
It seems like everything that was about to happen just didn’t pan out. For instance, the kids never made it to Coachella, Mads and Thayer never got to confront Alec, Ted kept lying to Kristen and Emma came very close to cashing in her v-card.
When we left off last week, Ethan was giving Emma the cold shoulder because he thought she slept with Thayer. Emma, in turn, was told that Ethan had slept with Sutton. Both were flat out lies cooked up by the one and only devious Sutton Mercer. Hey, if she can’t be happy then why should anyone else be, right?
Can you guess which twin is giving the icy glare in the photo above? I’m going to guess that the snapshot is from the confrontation scene in the cabin. You know, the one with the slap hear ’round the world. I have to say, I haven’t gotten that jazzed up about a bitch slap since that crazy episode of Real World: Seattle back in the day!
I’m not saying physical violence is ever the answer, but Sutton had it coming. Emma has been a puppet this whole season. Sure, Sutton took her out of the foster system and away from a creepy foster brother, but she dragged her into a whole new mess including a murder mystery.
It’s been one Hell of a ride this season and the penultimate episode got things to a perfect boiling point, ready to explode in next week’s finale. At least, this is what I hope. I have to say I’m getting a bit frustrated by the constant build of mystery and the lack of answers.
For those who thought that Rebecca having Ted’s picture in a locket was a big deal, that was no big surprise. All it did was solidify a theory that was pretty much a sure thing. Rebecca either used to sleep with Ted… or Alec and Ted’s paranoia, Kristen’s suspicions and other clues all pointed to it being Ted.
Another thing, Alec is 100 percent NOT the girls’ father. Lest we forget that Sutton and Thayer slept together and this is an ABC Family show. Having a sudsy, sexy teen soap is completely different than incorporating an incest storyline! The writers just simply would not have had Sutton sleep with her half-brother. I know other ABC Family programs have had some blurring of the lines, but keep in mind that it was never sex in those cases.
So what’s the motive for Rebecca to get in good with Alec? And did she just propose marriage with a ring she had already picked out? Little creepy, no? These are answers I hope we will find out on the finale. Who knows, maybe he over-sharing old housekeeper will swoop in and stop the wedding by revealing the rest of Rebecca’s secrets!
Also something I hope we can resolve is the Emma/Ethan/Sutton love triangle. While I’m glad Ethan didn’t go through with taking Emma’s virginity while lying to her, he still didn’t come clean soon enough for my liking. She asked point blank at the trailer if something happened with Sutton. Ethan shouldn’t have lied to begin with. In addition, if he was going to spring the truth on his girlfriend, he could’ve chosen a less vulnerable moment, say… I don’t know, maybe when she was clothed?
I’m still disappointed in you, Mr. Whitehorse. Speaking of the tall, dark and handsome fellows, I will be interviewing Blair Redford early tomorrow. Alexandra Chando tells HollywoodLife.com she ‘literally screamed’ when she got to the end of the script.
The Lying Game hasn’t officially been renewed for a second season, but I’ve got all my fingers and toes crossed that it does, because Alexandra Chando tells HollywoodLife.com the March 5 season finale is a “total cliffhanger.” Even though we do finally find out who killed Derek, we’re also going to be left speechless by the shocking ending. “I was reading it for the first time in the makeup chair and I literally screamed,” she says. “It’s so intense.”
So what exactly is on the line during the final hour of the season? Pretty much everything — but especially Emma’s relationship with Ethan (Blair Redford).
“Ethan is trying his best to prove to Emma [that he loves her] and get her back, but Emma’s heartbroken,” Alexandra explains. “She’s not sure if she wants to go down that road again. It’s going to take a lot more than just an apology to get her back. In the finale, it shows how serious she was when she walked away from him.”
I also asked Alexandra if any characters will switch sides and surprise us — many viewers have theorized that Thayer (Christian Alexander) is behind Derek’s death — but she says we shouldn’t be so quick to suspect people we’ve trusted all along.
“I don’t think there’s a bad guy or a good guy on the show,” she says. “I think everyone has their own ulterior motives. OK, maybe Kristin’s good. But between Alec and Rebecca, it’s very clear there’s something going on there and they’re sort of playing each other. So that comes out a little bit, but I still think it’s unclear who the real villain is.”
She also shoots down speculation that more Phoenix residents will learn that Emma and Sutton are actually twins.
“They’re keeping that pretty hush hush for now,” she says. “It would start to get dangerous if too many people knew. They’re still trying to keep it quiet. It was huge that Mads even found out!”

It’s the question on the minds of all Lying Game fans: Should Emma forgive Ethan?
“Right now it’s really hard for her, she has insecurities about Ethan and Sutton’s relationship,” Alexandra Chando told me this week. “I think it was very honorable of him to tell her. I think it’ll be hard for her to fully forgive him.”
In Ethan’s defense, it takes two to tango, so Sutton is partially to blame for her and Ethan’s indiscretion. And that certainly isn’t the only way in which the evil twin has put Emma through the ringer this season. So I had to ask Chando: does she think there is any good in Sutton?
“The only thing that justifies Emma’s relationship with Sutton is that they are sisters and it’s Emma’s only blood relative. Deep down she wishes something was there.”
That’s understandable. If it weren’t for Sutton, Emma would still be living in the foster care system, devoid of all the people she nows loves and cares about, including the rest of the Mercer family.
Unfortunately, we all know it’s no paradise around the Mercer household these days. According to Chando, the Ted and Kristen situation will finally come to a head on Monday night’s season finale. Will Kristen discover the love locket of Ted that Sutton found last week?
No comment in that regard from the actress, but she did echo co-star Blair Redford’s assessment that the finale will feature a major bombshell.
“I think the audience thinks they know what the bombshell is going to be and I think they are going to be shocked when they see what it really is.”
On a show that serves up more surprises and drama each week, I can’t even imagine what we must be in for! Don’t forget to tune in to The Lying Game on Monday night and then return to TV Fanatic soon afterward for my review.
